Siddaramaiah Decries Electronic Media Hype

BENGALURU: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday regretted the culture of sensationalism in electronic media and pleaded for factual news dissemination.

Delivering the inaugural address at the ninth Global Communication Association International Conference, Siddaramaiah said, “Print is by and large fair in facts. But not the electronic media.”

The latter is keen on meeting deadlines and engages in sensationalism, he said.

As media’s role is crucial for democracy, there is a need for credible and unbiased information, the Chief Minister said.

Prasar Bharati Chairman A Surya Prakash said  Doordarshan is not concerned about TRP ratings, like other channels. “The next big thing for the organisation is DD Kisan,” he said.

‘All Rapists Are in the BJP’

Reacting to the charge by Jagadish Shettar, Opposition leader in the Legislative Assembly, that Bengaluru is turning into a “rape capital under Congress rule”, Siddaramaiah said, “All rapists are in the BJP. Ask D N Jeevaraj and S A  Ramdas about it.”
