90-year-old's Divorce Plea Dismissed

BELAGAVI: A family court in Belagavi has dismissed the plea of a 90-year-old man, who sought divorce from his 85-year-old wife.

The man has been living separately from his wife and five sons. While he is living in an old-age home, his wife is living with the children. He is being paid `13, 500 per month as maintenance by the children. He pleaded with the family court to direct his wife to return the mangalasutra. He contended that as he and his wife were estranged for many years,  the mangalasutra had lost its importance.

His wife told the court that her husband was harassing her and the children and hence they decided to live separately from him.

The court dismissed his plea for divorce and also rejected his plea for the return of mangalasutra.
