MYSURU: Revenue Minister V Srinivas Prasad on Monday said the Congress high command has taken note of the dalits’ hope that one day, one of their leaders becomes the chief minister.
Prasad told reporters here that the dalit community, which has remained loyal to the Congress for decades, is the backbone of the party. There are many senior, experienced and efficient leaders from the community who can be contenders for the top post, the minister said.
He said dalits from the Congress have better chances of becoming chief minister in Karnataka than those in other parties. He said no dalit or backward class leader from the JD(S) or the BJP has any chance of becoming chief minister.
To a query on when a dalit would become chief minister, he said, “I cannot answer this by looking at the panchanga (almanac). The question of changing Siddaramaiah does not arise at the moment.”
