Fearing Stigma, Parents Disown Rape Victim

TUMAKURU: The agony of a class 10 student who was allegedly raped by three youths continues. Her parents, residents of a village near Nittor, have reportedly disowned her.

Fearing social stigma, they have allegedly detached themselves from the girl following which she has been admitted to the government observation home in Tumakuru.

Cheluru police had arrested Manjunatha (25) of Baguru village who runs a cell phone retail shop at Nittur, Sunil(26) of Devarayapatna who works with a car finance agency in Tumkuru and Dayananda (19) on Saturday. 

Gubbi circle police inspector Venkataramana said medical reports confirm that she was raped. The three youths have confessed to the crime during interrogation.

A woman pimp Savitha, who had allegedly abetted the crime by serving the girl juice laced with an intoxicant substance, was arrested on Monday. However, she maintained that the rape had not occurred at her home, but elsewhere. Investigation is on.

Meanwhile, in another incident, a Class 8 student was allegedly raped by a construction labourer at Nonavinakere in Tiptur taluk. The accused Bheemanna and alleged abetters Shashikala and Dharmesh are absconding. The girl hails from a poor family and her father is a security guard in Bengaluru, police said.
