KALABURAGI: The Karnataka Agriculture Price Commission headed by T N Prakash Kammaradi has submitted a report to the government recommending inclusion of tur dal under the Anna Bhagya scheme.
According to the report available with Express, the commission has said that tur dal has the capacity to increase nutrition.
The commission has further suggested that the government take necessary steps to provide two kg of tur dal to all the families under the scheme.
Farmers of Kalaburagi, Yadgir, Bidar, Raichur and Viajayapura districts have cultivated tur dal in 7.13 lakh hectares this year and are expecting a yield of 4.6 lakh tonne.
Owing to price fluctuation and decrease in procurement price, tur dal cultivation has come down, he said.
Compared to last year, the cultivation area of tur has decreased by 1 lakh hectares, an expert said.
