YADGIR: Four people, including two children, were killed when the tractor they were travelling in fell into the Narayanpur Left Bank canal near Jogundabavi village in Surpur taluk, Yadgir district, on Tuesday.

The incident occurred when five members of a family from Ennivadagera village were going to work.  The deceased have been identified as Sharanappa (28), the driver, Gaddemma (31), Kalinga (12) and Manjunath (7).   Muthuraja, who was also in the tractor, swam to safety and raised an alarm.

Former minister Narasimha Naik mobilised locals for the rescue operation and demanded `5 lakh compensation for the victims’ family.
