Kannada Activists Disrupt Traffic on NH

MYSURU: Traffic was disrupted for more than an hour on the busy Chamarajanagar-Sathyamangalam National Highway when hundreds of Kannada activists staged a protest against imposing Tamil as first language in Kannada schools in Tamil Nadu.

The protesters,  led by former MLA Vatal Nagraj, shouted slogans against the Tamil Nadu government. They also condemned leaders of Karnataka for keeping silence over the issue.

Nagraj said thousands of Kannada students in Talwadi region of Tamil Nadu are affected by this move. He said Kannada Sahithya Parishat is dead as it has failed to take up the issue.

He said elected representatives should discuss the issue in the upcoming legislature session. He added that writers and seers who take to the streets for various issues, failed to show similar commitment to the cause of Kannada-speaking population in the border areas.

He urged the government to spell out its stand and prevail upon the Tamil Nadu government to reintroduce Kannada as the first language.
