Wild Animal Kills Calf in Khanapur

BELAGAVI: A wild animal killed a calf at Jamboti village in Khanapur taluk in the early hours on Wednesday.

This has created panic in the village as the region has been in the grip of the predator menace.

Villager Laxman Wadkar told Express that he had tied the calf along with cattle in a shed. However, the wild animal, which he suspects to be a tiger, broke into the shed and killed the calf. Its remains were found around 2 km from the shed, he said.

After learning of the incident, a team of Forest Department officials, led by Assistant Conservator of Forests Prashant, rushed to the spot. The department can confirm whether the calf was killed by a tiger or a leopard  only after  the investigation is complete, said an official source.
