Spelling Bee Competition Held

BENGALURU:Sahasra Deepika International Foundation for Education organised a spelling bee competition for students studying in ninth grade at various government schools in the city on Saturday.

The event witnessed the participation of 92 students from 23 government schools.

Archana of Krishna Iyer School secured the first place, while Sandhya and Bindushree stood second and the third respectively.

The top four students were awarded with laptops and trophies. Prior to the competition, the students were provided with a dictionary which included 500 English words from their textbooks, phonetic spelling in Kannada, definition and examples of their usage in sentences. Last year, students from 14 schools had  participated in the competition, the organisers said.

High Court judge Ram Mohan Reddy presided over the programme. Sahasra Deepika is a non-profit foundation which houses and educates underprivileged children in the city.
