BENGALURU: Cubbon Park Management Authority may soon become a reality, as Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday approved a proposal for its creation and instructed officials to prepare a detailed presentation on the proposal before it is finalised.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who chaired a high-level meeting attended by Infrastructure Development Minister Roshan Baig, Horticulture Minister Shyamanur Shivashankarappa and Tourism Minister R V Deshpande, wanted officials to present the detailed proposal within a week.

Setting up of an exclusive authority for managing Cubbon Park would enable the government to get funds and expertise from the private sector towards development and beautification of the park. However, ownership of the park would remain with the Horticulture Department, it was decided at the meeting.

The meeting discussed at length a facelift for Bal Bhavan and additions such as a toy train for children, an aquarium and a children’s park within Cubbon Park premises.

The Chief Minister instructed officials to ensure that no new construction activity is allowed in the park, and that care be taken to preserve the existing heritage structures.

The proposed authority will have representatives from Tourism, Horticulture and other Departments and private institutions and civil society.

The proposed authority will also chalk out various programmes to attract more tourists to the historic park, sources said.
