Glimmer of Hope for SSLC Students Who Missed Exam

BENGALURU: There may be a ray of hope for the over 50 students who were not allowed to write the SSLC examination as their schools were not recognised by the education department.

The Department of Primary and Secondary Education has decided to review the rule book to allow them to appear for  supplementary exams. Ajay Seth, principal secretary to the department, said, “I am also aware about the 52 students, who lost their opportunity to write the exams. But to allow them to appear for supplementary exams, I need to check the rule book. I have an open mind on the issue, but I cannot violate the rules.”

Thirty students from Swami Vivekananda School (SVS), Saraipalya, and St George Public School (SGPS) on Thanisandra Road in the city and 22 students from a school in Haveri were not allowed to write the SSLC exams that concluded on Wednesday, as their schools were illegal.

Protest Staged

When the exams started on March 30, they did not get hall tickets. The shocked students and their parents staged a protest in front of the schools. Officials booked criminal cases against the school managements.

“There were over 3,000-plus such schools across the state....We took a decision to give them temporary Renewal of Recognition that would be cancelled next year. But two schools, where the students are facing problems now, did not even approach us. And now the situation is beyond control,” he said.
