MYSURU: The police failure in controlling the crowd at the Dasara Exhibition Ground has irked many.
The police appeared unprepared to handle the huge flow of people and VIPS, many leaders said. Many VIPs had a tough time to reach near Rakesh’s body.Former chief minister Dharam Singh openly expressed his dissatisfaction over the lack of arrangements.
Former CMs S M Krishna and H D Kumaraswamy had a tough time to reach the venue.
Many VIPs could not get a place to sit as unauthorised people occupied seats. Many VIPs could not even come close to the body due to the unruly crowd. The situation got worse when film actor Darshan came to the ground.
A huge number of people failed to have a glimpse of the body and many leaders expressed their displeasure over the police failure and lack of preparations of the district administration.
Cops on toes
Policemen were on their toes as a huge crowd was gathered at the Exhibition Ground and traffic was disrupted on Bengaluru- Niligiri Road with frequent traffic jams. Tourists heading towards Mysore Palace were found trapped. Party leaders and public queued up hours before the body arrived at the airport and many jumped and broke barricades to rush towards Ranga Mandir.
Mahesh, a resident of Rayana Hundi, was rushed to a hospital as he started hitting his head to a pillar when the body was taken to T Katur. An elderly person was rushed to a hospital as he fell from a wall. Nirajana Nanda Puri Swami of Kanaka Peeta, Eshwaranandapuri Swami, Siddaramaiananda Puri, Shivananda Puri and Madarachannaiah Swami were present and supervised the final rituals.
With huge turnout of people at the Dasara Exhibition Ground, pickpockets had a field day and people lost more than `6,000 and six cell phones to them. People caught a person and thrashed him before handing over to the police.
