BENGALURU: Calling the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi and Karnataka State Open University (KSOU), Mysuru, the worst universities in the state, State Higher Education Minister Basavaraja Rayareddi said on Friday that he would not tolerate any mismanagement of universities.
Rayareddi said he was gathering information on the administrative, academic and financial status of all the state universities.
He told Express, “VTU is one of the worst universities and KSOU is among the most highly corrupt universities of the state. I am not going to tolerate such behaviour from Vice-Chancellors, Registrars or officers at any level.” According to the minister there is a prima-facie case in some of the universities and the government would initiate action soon.
“There are universities facing allegations of corruption, wasteful expenditure, violation of Act and Rules. All those will be set right by conducting an inquiry and initiating action against the guilty,” the minister explained.
Action against Maheshappa soon
On action pending against former vice-chancellor of VTU, Dr H Maheshappa, who was suspended by the Governor and Chancellor after a fact-finding committee led by retired judge Keshavanarayana submitted its report, he said, “We will initiate action against Maheshappa soon.”
