An RSS man with a long stint in Council

BENGALURU: Legislative Council Chairman D H Shankaramurthy, tipped to be the next Governor of Tamil Nadu, has been an MLC since 1988. He has strong RSS roots and is a close associate of former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa. He belongs to the Vaishya community and hails from Shivamogga district. Shankaramaurthy had earlier served as Leader of the Opposition in the Council and as Higher Education Minister in H D Kumaraswamy’s JD(S)-BJP coalition government. In 1975, during the Emergency period, he was detained for 19 months in Belagavi jail for organising protests against the imposition of Emergency.

Boy drowns in Chikkabanavara lake

Bengaluru: A 14-year-old boy drowned in Chikkabanavara Lake  on Wednesday. The deceased is Chandrashekar, son of Chikkamuniyappa, a resident of Soladevanahalli. The boy was studying in 8th Standard in a government school.
