'Send panel to Cauvery basin'

MYSURU: State BJP president B S Yeddyurappa has appealed to the apex court hearing Tamil Nadu’s plea for 50 tmcft of water to depute an expert committee to know the ground reality.

He said the apex court should take note of the 31 per cent rain deficit in the region and low reservoir levels that may hit drinking water needs of Bengaluru, Mysuru and other towns. He said this would be presented by senior counsel Fali S Nariman to convince the apex court.

Speaking after visiting KRS reservoir in Srirangapatna on Saturday, he said monsoon failure, depleting reservoir levels forced officials to stop water for paddy cultivation in the region.

He asked the government not to release water as there is no water to meet drinking needs.
