Polio: Karnataka Government to Address High-Risk Areas

BENGALURU:  The State Health Department has formed 51,732 teams, consisting two members each, to administer polio drops to 74,22,909 kids, across the State. This time the the focus will be on 29,000 high risk areas, where there are chances of children being missed.

Dr Ramachandra Bairi, Deputy Director, Immunization, said, “Slums, where majority of migrants population resides, nomads-who keep moving from one place to another, brick kilns, construction workers, are usually a challenge to us to administer polio drops as they do not reside at one place permanently.”

In 2014, out of 75,16,494 targeted population, 75,36,511 were covered,

thereby creating a record of 100.27 per cent.

Last year, up to November, out of 75,16494, 75,09729 were covered, there by resulting in 99.91 percent coverage.

CM to Inaugurate: On January 17, the department will administer vaccination at 32,617 booths and Chief Minister will inaugurate the drive. House to house survey will be done for the next two days.

To cover those left out, a second round of police vaccination drive will be held in February.
