DAVANGERE: Harapanahalli police have arrested five people on charges of gang rape. The group of men attacked and raped a woman from a rural area, who was standing with her relative on the outskirts of Harapanahalli, on Sunday night.
According to the police, a woman from Haralu village in Kudlagi taluk and her relative were returning after taking part in the Gonibasaveshwara car festival.
They were waiting on the outskirts of Harapanahalli, when a group of five men attacked the woman, and chased away her relative, after which they gang raped her.
Police swung into action after the incident was reported, and managed to arrest Tirupathi of Islampur in Harapanahalli, Hanumanthappa, Basavaraja alias Buttya, Basavaraja of Kulahalli and Dyama. An investigation is on.
