The incidents of Mangaluru has spurred a war of words between the two main parties, Congress and BJP, with Shobha making a personal attack on Dinesh.

Responding to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s statement that it was not enough to have breakfast in a dalit’s house as BJP should have a bond with the community as well, Shobha commented, “Has he brought (Dinesh Gundurao) a dalit to his house? Everyone knows whom he is married to.”

Irate at her comments, Dinesh retorted, “Everyone knows whom I married to. It has not sent a wrong message to society. If I had fallen in love with a dalit, then I would have married her. I do not know why she is worried about whom I am married to. Maybe she cannot understand it, because she herself is not married. There is still time for her to do so.”
