Not afraid of sand mafia, says Udupi DC

“I am not afraid of the hollow threats of sand miners, but I am shocked at their brutality. They are not afraid of the law and no respect for the system, but I  will continue to fight,” said Deputy Co

UDUPI: “I am not afraid of the hollow threats of sand miners, but I am shocked at their brutality. They are not afraid of the law and no respect for the system, but I  will continue to fight,” said Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis.
She was speaking at a protest meet held in Manipal on Tuesday.

While the citizens of Udupi are discussing the heinous attack on the DC by the sand mafia goons in hushed tones, the officials right from the lowest rank to the highest in the hierarchy held a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, boycotting the work for most part of the day. They resumed work only after the DC asked them to get back to their desks.

Activist of District Nagarika Samithi Nityananda Volakad told Express: “The district lacks political leadership, most of them are in the pockets of sand mafia.”
“I will, however, continue to raid all illegal sand mining spots in future also. These incidents will not bog me down,” the DC said.
