PARASHURAMAPURA/CHITRADURG :A leopard which created fear among villagers of Halagondanahalli and nearby villages of Parashuramapura Hobli was trapped by forest officials on Saturday, bringing much relief to villagers.

Range forest officer S Suresh said the department had information about the movement of the wild animal since March 20, and a close watch was kept over the ward to trace it.

During the same period, incidents of sheep and dogs going missing were reported, which went on increasing every passing day.

Forest Department officials placed a trap near Kappe Gudda 10 days back, and the leopard was trapped in it on Saturday.

The leopard could be heard growling after it was trapped, a few villagers said.

Villagers informed officials about the trapped leopard, after which Forest Department officials and the police rushed to the spot.

The leopard will be released in the Bannerughatta forest, said official sources.
Villagers in the area have been living in fear since March 20, when the leopard was first spotted. Last Sunday, the animal attacked a boy at Halagondanahalli. The boy is undergoing treatment at the district hospital.
