BENGALURU: Former legislators L R Shivarame Gowda and Suresh Gowda of the Congress joined the JD(S) on Monday in the presence of party seniors H D Deve Gowda and H D Kumaraswamy.

Speaking at the event, Suresh Gowda said he was joining the JD(S) as he was disillusioned with the Congress.

Suresh Gowda, who is a former MLA from the Nagamangala region, said once former minister N Cheluvaraya Swamy showed an interest in joining the Congress, he had been sidelined.

He is likely to contest from Nagamangala on the JD(S) ticket, while Shivarame Gowda will likely be made an MLC

.Shivarame Gowda said he had been trying to join the JD(S) for the last nine years, but Cheluvarayaswamy had opposed it. Deve Gowda said he would ensure the win of both the leaders.

“There should not be any friction between the leaders. Both are influential people and their supporters should ensure they work together and ensure the party’s victory,” he advised.
