Debt-ridden farmer commits suicide in Karnataka

KOLAR: A debt-ridden farmer committed suicide by jumping into a well in Herehalli of Kolar taluk, after he reportedly received a demand notice from a bank on Wednesday afternoon.

According to Kolar rural police, Narayanappa (40) had been depressed after the receipt of the notice as he was unable to clear the loan amount.

The severe drought conditions had resulted in the total lack of any agricultural activity and it had also added to his depression, Narayanappa’s family members said.

Narayanappa, who co-owned 12 acres of land with his family members, had taken loans to the tune of Rs 15 lakh for agricultural purpose.

Narayanappa is survived by his wife and two school-going children. Kolar Police registered a case in this regard.
