BENGALURU: After Ramalinga Reddy, Santosh Lad and K J George, now it is Forest and Environment minister Ramanath Rai’s name which is doing the rounds as Home Minister. The Ministry has remained headless following the resignation of G Parameshwara.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah spoke to Rai in this regard on Tuesday evening and asked him to be ready to take over the Home Ministry soon after getting the nod from Congress high command. Siddaramaiah is expected to meet AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi soon to finalise the proposal.

Confirming the developments, Rai said,  “I am ready to take up the responsibility if given the charge of Home Ministry. I have the experience handling various portfolios ably in my career.”

While some of the senior ministers within Siddaramaiah’s cabinet are said to be unhappy at giving the sensitive Home Portfolio to Rai, opposition BJP is set to protest against the move by terming Rai as a misfit for the post.

Leader of the opposition Jagadish Shettar said, “How can a man who cannot deal with one district, Dakshina Kannada as the in-charge minister, handle the law and order responsibility of the entire state.”
