Six dead, five injured in yet another accident involving parked lorry in Karnataka

Six people were killed on the spot and another six persons were severely injured when a van in which they were travelling hit a lorry parked on the Koda-Halageri Road in Ranebennur taluk.

HAVERI: Six people including five women died on the spot and another six persons were severely injured when a van in which they were travelling hit a lorry parked on the Koda-Halageri Road in Ranebennur taluk at midnight Sunday.

The deceased were family friends from Makanooru, Kavalethu and Kodiyal Hospet villages of Ranebennur taluk and were returning from a picnic in the vehicle.

The lorry loaded with Nilgiri poles stopped by the because of a flat tyre. The van driver didn’t notice the stationary lorry and rammed into it.

The deceased have been identified as Nagamma Bhandari, Poornima Manjunath, Gouramma Gurusiddappa, Sarvakka Malad, Gangamma Basangouda and Nagaraj Basavaraj.

All the six severely injured persons including a child were admitted to Government Hospital, Ranebennur of which two were later shifted to the Davanagere Chigateri Hospital.

A case has been registered in the Halageri Police station.
