Bus begins to move in hurry, crushes boy’s leg

A highschool student’s left leg was crushed when he fell off the bus while boarding it at the city bus stand here on Tuesday.

MYSURU: A highschool student’s left leg was crushed when he fell off the bus while boarding it at the city bus stand here on Tuesday. Ullekh (14), studying in class nine at Sadvidya School, is a resident of Bannur.Ullekh who was rushed to hospital, underwent surgery where his left leg was amputated from below the knee.

Writhing in pain, Ullekh told the media, “I slipped from the bus as the driver started the vehicle before I could get into it.”In his complaint to Devaraja traffic police, Ullekh’s father writer Puttaswamy has accused both driver Venkatappa and conductor U N Patil of negligence.

He told Express, “My son had just got on to the footboard of the bus (KA 09 F 5277) at platform one when the conductor blew the whistle. As the driver started the bus, my son lost his balance and fell down with his left leg coming under the rear wheel of the bus.” Puttaswamy alleged that the conductor closed the hydraulic door suddenly.

Srinivas K H, divisional controller, KSRTC Mysuru division, claimed that the boy tried to get into the moving bus and fell down.“Our officials visited the hospital and offered `5,000 for medical expenses, but his parents refused,” he said.
