MYSURU: With an eye on the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, H D Kumaraswamy seems to have made an attempt to win over religious institutions of backward communities and Dalits by allocating huge funds.
In his first budget, the CM also allocated Rs 25 crore to the Brahmin Mahasabha and also to religious peethas and associations striving to provide food and education to the needy and also those involved in the service of neglected communities.
The CM announced Rs 10 crore for development of socially backward communities — Shillekyatha, Dombidasa, Gowli, Heluva, Shikaries, Hoovadiga, Kanchugara, Kammara, Darji, Devadiga, Budubudike, Thigala, Badige, Hatgara, Kareokkaliga, etc. This covers Sri Bhagiratha Peetha of Uppara community, Sri Madara Channiah Gurupeetha, Sri Siddarameshwara Bhovi Gurupeetha, Sri Kaginele Kanaka Peetha, Valimiki Gurupeetha, Sri Yadava Mahasamsthana, Sri Narayana, Madiwala, Devanga, Kumbara Gurupeethas, Chalavadi Jagathguru Peetha, Sri Vijayasangama Education Institute, Sri Shivashakthi Peetha, Gangamatasta, Mogaveera, Besta, Koli communities and State Kumbar Association.
Social entrepreneurs
Under the Ganga Kalyana scheme, the subsidy limit has been increased from Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 3 lakh. The government, under the ‘Social Entrepreneurship Scheme’, will provide financial assistance of a maximum of Rs 10 lakh for 5,000 SC/ST unemployed youths to commence income-accruing activities and provide technical training to 5,000 unemployed SC/STs at a cost of Rs 15 crore.
Kumaraswamy also announced that the government plans to provide training for SC/ST graduates aspiring to appear for civil services, KPSC and banking exams. The training, which will be imparted in collaboration with a private institute will start in Kalaburagi. An allocation of Rs 2 crore has been made for providing training to talented SC/ST sportspersons in prestigious sports training institutes.
