CHIKKAMAGALURU: A 17-year-old boy who was reportedly in love with his collegemate was murdered by the girl’s teenage relatives in Birur police station limits, the police said on Thursday.
Kadur police traced the body of the victim, S Y Rohan (17),  underneath a bridge on the Lingadahally-Santhveri road. Rohan, the only son of Katyayini and late Yogeshwara of Rajaji Nagar in Birur, was studying first PU at Varaprada PU College in Kadur.

His father had died of heart attack two months ago.
The girl’s family had objected to her reported love affair with Rohan. On Tuesday afternoon, her relatives Jivan (19) and Ashwin (18) who were waiting outside his college asked Rohan to get into their car when the latter was getting ready to board a college bus heading to Birur, the police said.

Arun (name changed), a first PU student at Rohan’s college followed them on a motorbike. On the way from Emmedoddi to Birur, Jivan and Ashwin questioned Rohan about his affair as the girl was related to them and a heated argument followed. The enraged Jivan and Ashwin strangulated Rohan to death with a veil, stuffed the body into a gunny bag and dumped it under a bridge near Santhavery, the police said.
Late in the evening, Katyayini received a ransom call for `15 lakh and she was asked to deliver the money near Hullehally Gate. The venue was later changed to Bygadehally Gate. She received one more call telling her to deliver the ransom at a particular place and take back her son. The worried woman lodged a complaint with the police stating that her son had gone missing.

The Birur police swung into action and traced Rohan’s body.

Jivan, who is the son of former zilla panchayat member B P Nagaraj and who is pursuing civil engineering in Bengaluru and Ashwin who has completed PU have been arrested. Arun was also detained. SP K Annamali visited the spot and complimented Kadur circle inspector Satynarayana, PSI Rakesh and Birur PSI Vinuth for cracking the case swiftly.
