KALABURAGI: There is no question of closing any government schools in the state, said minister for primary and secondary education N Mahesh here on Sunday. During his maiden visit to Kalaburagi district after assuming the charge of education minister, Mahesh told mediapersons that the government has not intended to merge the schools having less students with schools having higher strength. “The schools having less students would also continue,” the education minister added.

In reply to another question, Mahesh said that the government has proposed to include LKG and UKG also in primary schools. It is being considered to include LKG and UKG in 1,000 primary schools of the state in the first phase, he said. The minister added that he would discuss with the chief minister about providing free bus passes to school and college students.

“The main intention of the government is to provide quality, active and skilful education in government schools, and then only we can bring quality changes in schools. Action is being taken to fill up 10,000 vacant posts of teachers of government schools at the earliest,” Mahesh said.
