BENGALURU: Former prime minister and JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda on Monday said his party will back Congress president Rahul Gandhi as the Prime Ministerial candidate.
At a time when Congress is trying to put up a grand alliance to take on BJP in the 2019 polls, JD(S) is the first party to openly back Rahul for the PM’s post. On Sunday, the Congress Working Committee had authorised Rahul to take a decision on alliance partners in different states.
Deve Gowda said Congress and JD(S) have an alliance in Karnataka and the same will continue even in the Lok Sabha elections. He was speaking to mediapersons in New Delhi. Though the alliance partners will fight the elections together, they are yet to decide the number of seats each party will contest in the state.
