HUBBALLI: The Special Investigation Team (SIT), which nabbed two accused in Gauri Lankesh murder case from Hubballi, was camping in the city for over a week.
A source from the police department told The New Indian Express that the SIT team was following the whereabouts of the accused - Amit Baddi, a resident of Tadapatri Galli and Ganesh Miskin, a resident of Chaitanya Nagar - before arresting them in Hubballi.
Ganesh Miskin used to work in an incense stick unit, whereas Amit Baddi was working as a small time employee.
Police said that both accused have had cases against them in the past, pertaining to religious disturbance and violence during festivals. Both are hardcore followers of Hindutva and used to take part actively in religious processions.
The Old Hubballi and Kasabapet police had booked cases against the duo in 2013-14 for their involvement in a violence between people belonging to two religions.
But the police said that both of them were quiet since last two years and were not seen in religious rallies.
“The SIT team was following the accused duo and gathering information for the last one week. The team also went through their social media pages and messages. The local police too assisted them in finding the previous cases and their connections in Hubballi. While Miskin was found near Nekar Nagar, Baddi was called to the city police station on the pretext of inquiry,” said a police officer.
