Two washed away by giant waves in Udupi; Body of one youth traced

The incident occurred on Wednesday morning when five men, who went for fishing, were returning to the shore.

UDUPI: Two youths have died after a giant wave hit a fishing boat and swept them away at Malpe- Padukere here on Wednesday. The deceased are Nithesh (29) and Nishanth (22). The incident occurred on Wednesday morning when five men, who went for fishing, were returning to the shore.

Out of five fishermen, three were safe. Body of Nithesh has been recovered and has been kept at the mortuary in district government hospital in Udupi. The body of Nishanth is yet to be recovered. The local people, fire personnel and coast guard team have launched search operation for the missing person.

Nithesh was the resident of Pithrody village in Udupi and he got married just seven months back. His family is in despair after this tragic news was communicated by the police. The fishermen were just 200 meters away from the shore when the incident occurred. A case has been registered at Malpe police station and investigation is on.
