Bengaluru tourist drowns in Murdeshwar

After lunar eclipse on Friday night, thousands of people from various parts of the state on Saturday visited religious places like Murdeshwar and Gokarna of Uttara Kannada district to get blessings.

KARWAR: A tourist from Bengaluru drowned in the Arabian Sea off the Murdeshwar coast in Uttara Kannada district and another person was rescued by lifeguards and local people on Saturday.

According to Murdeshwar police, Kiran Kumar, son of Shrinivas, (18) drowned and another person Kartik Muniraju (20) was rescued by locals and lifeguards. The police, lifeguards and swimming experts are searching for the body in the sea. The duo came with their family members to enjoy their weekend in the coastal region. The group of nine people, residents of Yelahanka in Bengaluru came to Murdeshwar and four of them were swimming in the sea. A huge wave washed away Kiran Kumar and Kartik, while Kartik survived, the ill-fated Kiran drowned in the sea.

After lunar eclipse on Friday night, thousands of people from various parts of the state on Saturday visited religious places like Murdeshwar and Gokarna of Uttara Kannada district to get blessings at Shiva temples. Some tourists who don't have an idea of the rough seas during the monsoon went into deep water in sea and risked their lives. A case has been registered with Murdeshwar police station.
