Manipal police have registered a complaint and are looking for the gang involved in the murder.

The body of the victim was recovered by police and sent for post-mortem. Guruprasad is said to be a distant relative of Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat.

The MLA visited the hospital following the incident. He said that the police have a few leads and they are pursuing them to nab the killers.

Guruprasad was involved in various businesses and prior enmity could be one of the reasons for murder, police sources said.

He was running the recreation club where he was attacked and he was also involved in the media business, running a weekly a few years ago.
