Businessman stabbed to death at his club by three

The victim, Guruprasad Bhat (45), was at a recreation club when three persons who came in a four-wheeler, attacked him with knives and fled from the spot.

UDUPI:A businessman was stabbed to death at Perampalli in Manipal Police Station limits in Udupi district on Sunday afternoon.

The victim, Guruprasad Bhat (45), was at a recreation club when three persons who came in a four-wheeler, attacked him with knives and fled from the spot.

Guruprasad, who was heavily bleeding, was rushed to Manipal Hospital but succumbed to injuries on the way. He is survived by his wife and two children.

Manipal police have registered a complaint and are looking for the gang involved in the murder.

The body of the victim was recovered by police and sent for post-mortem. Guruprasad is said to be a distant relative of Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat.

The MLA visited the hospital following the incident. He said that the police have a few leads and they are pursuing them to nab the killers.

Guruprasad was involved in various businesses and prior enmity could be one of the reasons for murder, police sources said.

He was running the recreation club where he was attacked and he was also involved in the media business, running a weekly a few years ago.

Special teams have been formed by Udupi police to nab the killers, they said. Udupi SP Laxman Nimbargi said that a search is on for the killers and that investigation is underway.
