Newly-elected Karnataka Congress MLA Siddu Nyamagouda passes away in road accident

Jamkhandi MLA Siddu Nayamagouda was killed in an accident in the early morning hours at Tulsigeri in Bagalkot on Monday.

BAGALKOT: Jamkhandi MLA Siddu Nayamagouda was killed in an accident in the early morning hours at Tulsigeri in Bagalkot on Monday.

The incident occurred while Nayamagouda was returning from Delhi, he reached Goa in the night hours and left to Bagalkot via-road and met with an accident in the wee hours at Tulasigeri, which is 12 kilometers away from Bagalkot.

The legislator suffered serious head injuries was soon rushed to the hospital but he failed to respond to the treatment and succumbed to injuries. Along with him three more people escaped in a narrow and suffered minor injuries. He is survived by a wife and four children.

The autopsy has been concluded at the Bagalkot District Hospital and the body has been handed over to the family.

Political Career

The 70-year-old Siddu Nayamgouda won his first elections against the Ramakrishna Hegade and entered to the parliament representing Bagalkot in 1991. He was also Coal Minister in the cabinet of PV Narasimha Rao. Later he lost all the elections and won his first state assembly elections in 2013 and succeeded in winning in the recently concluded polls in 2018.

He was representing the Veerashaiva-Lingayath Ganiga community, he is the only native Congressman to win assembly polls representing Jamkhandi constituency in Bagalkot district. He won by a margin of 2,795 votes against the BJP's Srikanth Kulkarni, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi campaigned for his party nominee.

He was the aspirant for the ministerial post and it was said that his name was shortlisted. He even went to Delhi to meet the high command for including him into the cabinet.
