BENGALURU: Former chief minister and senior BJP leader BS Yediyurappa, who is an accused in a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) case, appeared before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for inquiry on Monday.

The BJP leader arrived at the CID office in the morning, where he was questioned for about three hours by investigators, after which he left the premises. Sources said the former CM denied the allegations of molesting the 17-year-old victim.

Yediyurappa had earlier appeared before the CID sleuths, who had collected his voice samples and WhatsApp messages and sent them to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for examination.

The 81-year-old BJP strongman was directed by the Karnataka High Court to appear for the probe. It may be recalled that the senior BJP leader was summoned by the CID on June 12, but he had sought time till June 17. A non-bailable warrant was obtained from a city court by the CID on Thursday. The HC, on Friday, had restrained his arrest, following an application for anticipatory bail.

The Sadashivanagar police, who had registered the case on March 14, had later transferred it to the CID for further probe on the directions of the state police chief. The complaint was filed by the mother of a 17-year-old girl. The complainant alleged that the former CM had sexually assaulted the girl at his residence in Dollars Colony on February 2, when both of them went there to seek his help. The complainant died at a private hospital in Hulimavu on May 26 due to health issues.
