BENGALURU: Deputy Chief Minister and Karnataka Congress president DK Shivakumar on Thursday defended Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s remarks that the BJP was trying to destabilise the State Government by offering Rs 50 crore each to 50 Congress MLAs.

“The BJP has spoken to our MLAs. They are luring them with Rs 50 crore each. Some of the MLAs reported this to the CM and he spoke about this to the media. I will talk about this later,” Shivakumar told the media.

Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara said that the BJP and JDS have been making all attempts to destabilise the government and the CM would have made the statements based on the information he has with him.

“They (BJP and JDS) also know it [destabilising the government] is not possible, but still, they are trying to contact the MLAs. It has become habitual for them,” Dr Parameshwara said.

People are taking note of all the developments and the Congress will also explain it to the people, he said, adding that there is no apprehension in Congress, and they will face such attempts. Such developments should not happen in a democratic system, and that too when Congress gets such a big mandate, he added.
