PATHANAMTHITTA: The mortal remains of metropolitan and head of Thumpamon diocese of the Malankara Orthodox Church Philipose Mar Euesebius were laid to rest at St Basel Aramana Chapel here on Friday.
Catholicos and supreme head of Malankara Orthodox Church Baselios Marthoma Didimos I and Catholicos-designate Paulose Mar Milithios led the funeral rites which began at 11.30 am. Metropolitans, hundreds of clergymen and nuns were present at the chapel during the funeral held near tomb of Daniel Mar Phelxinos metropolitan.
Transport Minister Mathew T Thomas, Opposition leader Oommen Chandy, P J Kurian, MLAs K Sivadasan Nair, Adoor Prakash, Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, P J Joseph and P C Vishnunath, DCC president P Mohanraj and CPM district secretary K Anandagopan were present.
Before the funeral, the mortal remains of the metropolitan were taken out in a procession on a specially arranged vehicle for the customary “nagari kanikkal” from St Stephan’s Cathedral to St Basel Chapel at 9 a.m. through the town.
