THIRUVANATHAPURAM: The state Cabinet on Tuesday decided to enhance the monthly pension of Endosulfan victims who are unable to go for work owing to severe health problems. The monthly pension will be hiked to Rs 2,000 from Rs 1,000 for those who developed serious deformities while the others who are having health problems will get a monthly pension of `1,000. Speaking to reporters after the Cabinet meeting here, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan said that the monthly pensions would be disbursed by Social Security Mission under the Social Welfare Department.

The state government had earlier decided to launch a comprehensive package to help the Endosulfan victims of Kasargod. The enhancement of pensions is part of this package. The Health Department has already decided to launch a special health package for the victims for which Health Minister P K Sreemathi has convened a meeting in Kanhangad on December 2.

SKY CITY

The Chief Minister said that the government had not given consent for the Sky City project in the state. Though he was present in the preliminary discussion of the project, sanction was not given for the project.

"The Secretary might be having his opinion on the project. But the government has not taken any decision on this till now. The reports that I was part of the decision favouring the Sky City project is absolutely wrong,'' Achuthanandan said.

CASH AWARD FOR ASIAN GAMES MEDAL WINNERS

The government has decided to give a cash prize of `10 lakh each to those sportspersons from the state who won gold medals in the recently held Asian Games. The silver medal winners will get Rs 7.5 lakh each while Rs 5 lakh each will be given to the bronze medal winners.
