THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Cabinet on Tuesday decided to give a debt relief of Rs 254 crore to fishermen in the State. The decision was taken on the basis of recommendations by the Kerala Fishermen Debt Relief Commission. Fisheries Minister S Sarma said that at least 60,000 fishermen, who had availed of loans from various co-operative societies would get the benefit of the debt relief. He also said that Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan would convene a meeting of nationalised banks to discuss the issue.
