T’PURAM,: The Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) was conferred on Air Commodore S.R.K.Nair of the Indian Air Force, a native of Thiruvananthapuram, by the President on the Republic Day for his `distinguished service of the most exceptional order,’ a press release said.

Air Commodore Nair is an alumnus of the 56th course of the National Defence Academy and was commissioned into the IAF in June 1980.

During his 29 years of service, h e h a d 7 , 0 0 0 hours of flying on various types of aircraft. He led the first international air exercise abroad to South Africa, USA and Russia. He has taken active part in operations in Sri Lanka, Maldives and Kargil.

For his outstanding service, Air Commodore S.R.K.Nair has earlier been awarded the coveted Vayu Sena Medal.

Belonging to Sasthamangalam, he did his schooling at the Loyola School before joining the National Defence Academy.
