KOCHI: The Muthoot M George Foundation (MMGF) has announced the launch of the Muthoot M George Excellence Scholarship for the toppers of class IX in government schools.

Initially, the scholarship will be awarded to the students of 192 government schools in Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Kollam and Thrissur educational districts. The scholarship comprises a certificate and a cash prize of Rs 2500 each.

Kerala Agricultural University Vice-Chancellor K R Viswambharan launched the scholarship in Kochi on Monday. "Through these scholarships, the foundation, named after Muthoot Group founder-chairman the late M George Muthoot, aims at encouraging the children from the deprived sections of society which constitute the main student population of government schools. It is expected that these awards will motivate and inspire the students of these government schools to excel in their studies," George Alexander Muthoot said at a press conference here on Tuesday.

"Besides the support being provided to the sick from financially weak families, thousands are given financial relief for treatment depending upon their financial position at the group's hospitals at Kozhenchery and Pathanamthitta," he said.

Apart from the new initiative, the MMGF, in association with the Tamil Nadu Kidney Foundation and the Kerala Kidney Foundation, offers a cash award to the best doctor engaged in kidney-related studies and researches.

Deserving students from poor families, who are pursuing professional courses, including nursing, are being supported financially by offering scholarships, George Alexander said.
