KANNUR: Actor Mohanlal who joined the Territorial Army as Lieutenant Colonel recently reported for his post-commission training at the 122 Infantry Battalion of Territorial Army (TA) stationed here on Thursday.

The TA unit here had made all arrangements to make the arrival of the celebrity entrant a memorable event in the history of the unit here.

Mohanlal’s glamour as a film star turned it all a colourful ceremony.

Mohanlal who reported at 4.30 pm on Thursday at the TA unit was received with the ceremonial army pipe band at the entrance.

He was greeted by Col Davidson Kolath, Commanding Officer of the 122 Infantry battalion, Second- in-command Lt Col Karan Bhagat, Major Muneesh Bharadwaj, Major B P Patak, Subedar Major Vijayan and other officials of the unit. After affixing his signature at the office register of the TA unit and holding a discussion with the Commanding officer, Mohanlal participated in prayers at the temple at the TA unit, reciting bhajans along with other soldiers of the TA battalion, squatting on the floor for some time.

Later, Col Davidson Kolath gave him a ceremonial briefing on the Territorial Army battalion.

Former commanding officers of the TA battalion here, Brigadier P V Sahadevan, and Col Sreekumar Nair were also present at the function.

Mohanlal’s physical training will commence at 6 am on Friday.

He will participate in a Sainik Sammelan. Lal’s scheduled programmes on Friday also include a ‘tea session’ with retired soldiers of the Territorial Army. He will get training in the use of weapons from 10.30 am the same day. He will be given training in the use of firearms from 2.30 pm.

A volleyball match between a TA team led by the Commanding Officer and another team led by Mohanlal scheduled to take place at 4.30 pm will be another highlight of the day’s programmes at the TA .

Mohanlal’s training on Thursday will come to a close with another training programme in the use of night-weapons.
