KOCHI: Vipindas, who passed away on Saturday, is considered as one cameraman who can boast of having worked in all sorts of movies, irrespective of the genre.

Be it the  feel-good frames of Oridathoru Phayalwan or the colourful tone of Lenin Rajendran’s Chillu or the action sequences of Irupatham Noottandu, his craft is evident in all.

“He was a cameraman who could easily read the mind of the director. For instance, take the indoor scenes of the movie Moonnam Mura.

“He rolled the camera to perfection for that movie at a time when there was not even a HMI light for his support,” remembers director K Madhu.

“Vipin Das has cinematographed some major hits of K Madhu’s including Oru CBI Diarykkurippu, Jagratha, Irupatham Noottandu and Moonnam Mura. I met him while assisting M Krishnan Nair in direction. My association with him grew stronger while working together for my movie

Ee Kaikalil in 1986.  He had been among my crew in most films. Adayalam, released in 1991, was the last movie together,” Madhu said.

The climax of Irupatham Noottandu also explains the calibre of Vipindas.

“The lengthy climax scene of Irupatham Noottandu was shot in a single day.,” Madhu said.
