KOZHIKODE: The recruiting mechanism of the CPM would be put under the scanner while discussing the political-organisational report at the 20th Party Congress. For, the statement of membership of the party and mass organisations published in the latest edition of CPM’s publication People’s Democracy reveals a declining trend since the 19th Party Congress at Coimbatore in 2008. According to the statement published on April 1, 2012, the memberships of youth, student and women fronts declined considerably. Though the total party membership figures registered an increase, the growth rate declined when compared to the period between the 18th and 19th Party Congresses from 13.8 percent to 6 percent.
In 2011, the strengh of DYFI decreased to 1.34 crore as against 1.61 crore in 2010.Detailed analysis shows that the sharp decline occurred in West Bengal, the party bastion. There was a slight decrease in Kerala as well.
When the number of memberships in Bihar, Orissa, Rajasthan, Punjab and Tamil Nadu showed marginal increases, the figures in Assam, Maharashtra and Karnataka showed a decreasing trend.
