Kerala government today said that an attempt was being made from some lobbies to sabotage the state's ambitious Vizhinjam International Dee-sea Container Terminal project coming near here.
State government would not allow the lobby to succeed in their effort to scutle the project citing environment issues, Minister for Ports K Babu told reporters here today.
Tender inviting the private operator for the project to be implemented under Land Lord model would be made after getting the necessary evironment clearance, he said.
Under Land Lord route, infrastructre facilities like the construction of break water, dredging, land reclamation and environment study were the responsibility of the state.
The Vizhinjam Internationl Sea-Port Compay would hand over to state pollution control board the environment study report for public scrutiy and hearing in December, he said.
The project planned by the state for a long period has failed to take off due to various reasons for many years.
The latest hurdle was the demand from the lone bidder Welspun Consortium seeking a grant of Rs.399 crores which was rejected by the government.
Following this, the state has decided to go for fresh tender to find a new private operator for the port.
