Partymen themselves destroy CPM: Chandy

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Saturday said that nobody can wipe out the CPM from the state except those from the party itself. He was responding to CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan’s allegation that the Chief Minister and the Home Minister had been trying to annihilate the party from the state using the police force.

He told mediapersons at Ramanilayam here that the Congress can only defeat the CPM not destroy it. In democracy, no party can destroy another party, he said.

The government has taken steps to probe into the TP murder case in accordance with the law and order of the country. But,the CPM is trying to challenge the legal system in the state by conducting hartals and disrupting court proceedings, he said. On CPM district secretariat member P Mohanan’s arrest, he said it was the duty of the police and the government to nab the real culprits in the case. Even many of the small parties in the LDF would not support the hartal announced by the CPM in Kozhikode in protest against the arrest of P Mohanan, he said.

“Opposition Leader V S Achuthanadan had stated that the party would support the government’s efforts to nab the culprits,” he said.

Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan refused to comment on Pinarayi’s allegation when newsmen sought his opinion. However, he denied the allegation that the investigation into the T P murder case was progressing according to a ‘planned script’.

“The police have been impartial in conducting the probe and there is no matter of political hostility in the case,” he said.
