The CPM leaders had alleged in 1996 that the attempt to murder E P Jayarajan was part of a conspiracy hatched by K Sudhakaran.
When the police in Andhra Pradesh filed a case in connection with the attempted murder, Sudhakaran was excluded from the list of accused.
But, it is for the first time that a former Congress functionary, who worked in close association with Sudhakaran, is coming up with details relating to the involvement of the Congress leader in the conspiracy.
According to Prasanth Babu, the conspiracy to kill Jayarajan was planned at the house of Sudhakaran. There were some other leaders and an advocate at his house while the murder plan was worked out.
Prasanth Babu had left his job as driver of Sudhakaran since he had got an employment with a bank, but he had been called to Sudhakaran’s house on the day when the conspiracy was being hatched. He said that he had no clear idea about the target of the attack. It was later that he came to know they were planning to kill Jayarajan. It was Sudhakaran who gave the weapon and money to the quotation gang and sent them to Andhra Pradesh to kill the CPM leader, he alleged.
