SIT probe ordered into charges
A special investigation team (SIT) will probe the allegation raised by the former driver of K Sudhakaran MP that the Congress leader was behind the attempt to murder CPM leader E P Jayarajan, Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan said here on Sunday.
The decision was taken following demands by CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan and some leaders of the Opposition parties, he said.
Moreover, KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala was also in favour of a probe. The members of the investigating team will be announced on Monday, the Minister said.
“The government has decided to begin the probe with a credible team. The SIT will be like other investigating teams that were formed to probe the murder of T P Chandrasekharan and the disclosures made by former CPM Idukki district secretary M M Mani,” he said.
Sudhakaran has also expressed his readiness to face any probe based on the new disclosure, he said.
The Minister said that the Home Department has also made arrangements for the protection of Prashanth Babu, the driver who has made the disclosure against Sudhakaran.
“Pinarayi Vijayan has also demanded protection for Prashanth in the wake of his disclosure. But he (Prashanth) has issued a statement saying he does not want any police protection. I still don’t know on what grounds he rejected the protection,” the Minister said.
He added that there is a new tendency to tarnish the image of good public servants by raising allegations.
“In such a situation a transparent probe is needed,” he said.
