Man attempts suicide after murdering woman

A man was seriously injured after he fell from an electric tower at Thalavady near here on Monday. Sathyan, 42,  Anacherinjaparambil house, Niranam,  Vadakkumbhagom, was trying to commit suicide by hanging himself after murdering his cousin brother’s wife.

Sathyan killed Ajitha, 32, wife of Sadhanandan, Annapparambil on Monday morning. After the murder, he escaped from the house but local people traced him.

He reached Kothakari, Ettiyarimuttu in Thalavadi and climbed atop Powergrid Corporation tower. The local people and the Fire and Rescue Service personnel reached the spot and tried to pacify him. However, he stayed there for more than three hours before trying to commit suicide by tying the dhothi around his neck and hanging himself from a height of about 300 feet. But the dhothi got untied and he fell down from a considerable height. He was seriously injured.

Sathyan was admitted to the Medical College Hospital, Kottayam.

Pulikeezhu SI Byju K Jose said that Sathyan had an illicit relation with Ajitha and they were living together. Ajitha’s husband complained to the police and they settled the issue two weeks ago by sending her back to Sadhanandan. However, Sathyan did not consent to this agreement and on Monday attacked and killed Ajitha with an iron rod, police said. Ajitha is survived by three sons. Sathyan is also a culprit in the killing of his mother-in-law, police said.
