The Special Investigation Team (SIT) began an investigation in Tamil Nadu to find the burglars responsible for a theft at the Mavelikara Sree Krishna Swami Temple. Mavelikara CI K R Sivasudhan Pillai said that some of the thieves were natives of Tamil Nadu. A Kerala police team has been staying for the inquiry in Tamil Nadu,” the CI said.

The temple was looted on Wednesday. A gold crown weighing 48 grams and a chain weighing 23 grams were stolen from the temple. The crown adorning the deity was looted after breaking open the door of the sanctum sanctorum.The chain had adorned the deity’s waist.

The police said that the thieves entered the sreekovil through the tower constructed for fixing loudspeakers. An iron grill constructed in front of the sanctum sanctorum was also broke open. But the main door of the sreekovil was not locked. The police suspected the involvement of the local people.

During the investigation, the police learned that some of the local thieves had aided burglars from Tamil Nadu, so the investigation is being conducted in the neighbouring state.
